A look back: Focus on OT security risk assessments at SESAM’s working group meeting

OT cybersecurity is an area that continues to grow in importance as industrial environments become increasingly complex and the connection between OT and IT continues to evolve.

At ICS Range, we look back at SESAM Network’s working group meeting on OT-IT System Design, Cybersecurity & Operations, where the focus included the work with OT security risk assessments for machine deliveries.

The working group meeting focused on how the industry can strengthen and align the approach to OT risk assessments, as well as how relevant standards and methodologies can be translated into practical tools that both end users and suppliers can use in their work.

As part of the programme, ICS Range contributed with the presentation “Consequences of Missing an OT Risk Assessment.”

The importance of common approaches to OT security

Working with OT security involves many different stakeholders, making a shared understanding and practical methodologies important elements in the continued development of the field.

The meeting included discussions around relevant standards and methodologies, including IEC 62443-3-2 and the upcoming prEN 5072, with a focus on how these can support a more structured approach to OT security risk assessments.

The goal is to establish practical frameworks that can help both suppliers and end users work more consistently with risk assessments in connection with machine deliveries.

At ICS Range, we believe it is important to contribute to the continued development of OT cybersecurity and take part in the conversations shaping the future of security practices in industrial environments.

The presentation “Consequences of Missing an OT Risk Assessment” highlighted an area that remains relevant for many organisations: the need for a clear foundation for understanding and addressing risks within OT environments.

Although the working group meeting took place some time ago, the topic remains highly relevant. Developments within industrial cybersecurity require continuous focus on methods, collaboration and practical solutions.
